The statue at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam was commissioned.
It depicts the first minute of the 1974 World Cup final between West Germany and the Netherlands, when Cruyff was tackled in the German penalty area. The Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff and the German footballer Berti Vogts met in the match. The subsequently penalty converted by Johan Neeskens gave the Dutch team a lightning start.
The statue was created in 1978 and moved to a new location next to the Johan Cruyff Court in 2007.
