When Ek lived in Rome, he looked out of his window in the centre of Rome and saw an enormous American car driving through the narrow streets. This unusual view and the strong connotation of the American car, the car of his father in law, the car symbolic for the
people who freed Europe from the fascists.
The car he saw was on Via del Viminale in Rome. From the third floor you could see it clearly:
“Italian street with an American machine”, the Italians said.
