Annemarie Eilers started at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam when she was nineteen years old. During her education at the academy from 1952 to 1955 she had drawing lessons from Gé Röling and Jan Wiegers. Through Jan Wiegers, Eilers learnt to paint and the use of unusually bright colours.

LANDSCAPE WITH BLUE MOUNTAINS

The painting shows a lot of depth, a blue mountain range with different shades of blue is visual through the trees, standing elegant on the edge of the hill.

WHITE JUG

Annemarie often paints flowers and other still-life subjects, frequently picked from her own garden.

BOOTS ON THE MEUSE

Annemarie works instinctively, the moment she sees something that appeals to her. She drives her car along rivers and harbours. The river Meuse is very wide and the boats all differ in shape and size. It’s precisely this simplicity and abstraction that makes her work so powerful. Annemarie Eilers worked both at home and location. She creates the oil paintings that dry in the back of the car.

LAKE DISTRICT

The mountains in the lake district are very rough. You can imagine a lot of colours in autumn. Annemarie always has weather proof clothes on to be able to paint outside in harsh weather conditions.
